Washington has updated its rules to mirror OSHA’s electronic injury and illness reporting requirements. These changes will affect employers with establishments of certain sizes and certain industries and require routing submission of their completed OSHA Form 300A summary directly to OSHA using the online Injury Tracking Application (ITA). March 2, 2020 is the deadline for electronically reporting your OSHA 300A data for calendar year 2019.
-Washington State Department of Labor & Industries
Employers with more than 10 employees are required to follow OSHA log recordkeeping requirements unless exempted for being classified as a lower-risk industry. An Accounting Firm is one example of a lower-risk industry. The records must be maintained at the worksite for at least five years. Each February through April, employers must post a summary in the workplace of the injuries and illnesses recorded the previous year. Also, if requested, copies of the records must be provided to current and former employees, or their representatives.
Establishments with 250 or more employees that are currently required to keep OSHA injury and illness records, and establishments with 20-249 employees that are classified in higher-risk industry must submit their OSHA 300A summary data through the ITA. Manufacturing is one example of a higher-risk industry. Employers in State Plan states should review their state’s requirements by visiting their State Plan office.
OSHA provides a secure website that offers three options for data submission. First, users can manually enter data into a web form. Second, users can upload a CSV file to process multiple establishments at the same time. Last, users of automated recordkeeping systems will have the ability to transmit data electronically via an API (application programming interface). Instructions, FAQs, and the Injury Tracking Application (ITA) can be found by visiting www.osha.gov/injuryreporting/
