Managing Leaves in Oregon

Course Description

Managing employee leaves of absence while maintaining compliance with employment law can be challenging for HR Professionals. This class addresses all Oregon leaves including Domestic Violence Leave, Military Leave, and Sick Leave.

It will also outline the differences between FMLA, Paid Leave Oregon, the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), and the ADA.

Whether a participant's employer is FMLA eligible or not, they will learn about all leaves and additional regulations that come into play with 50 or more employees. This will help smaller organizations prepare for future growth.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Determine the applicability of specific leave laws to the employer's workplace.
  • Identify triggers requiring the employer to communicate leave rights to an employee.
  • Work effectively with employees and/or medical providers to confirm leave eligibility.
  • Manage all required leaves effectively and efficiently, including pregnancy, domestic violence, and military family leave.
  • Examine the nuances of the Americans with Disabilities Act and what is entailed in the interactive process.
  • Identify strategies for preventing abuse of leave by employees.
  • Describe the intersection between leave laws, including state-specific paid family and medical leave and FMLA.
